Cape Wools Weekly Market Report
Port Elizabeth – The 20th sale of the 2021/22 wool season took place this week, with a total of 10 139 bales on offer.
The wool market regained the losses from the previous sale, to close on R182,22 p/kg and an overall sales clearance of 93,8%.
Better market sentiment and a slightly weaker SA currency supported the market today. Nearly 75% of the offering tested 20 micron and finer, which makes comparison more difficult. Certified sustainable wools comprised 20,1% of the merino wools on offer, compared to the 38,2% of the previous sale.
All micron categories showed significant gains from the previous auction, with RWS certified wools once again achieving good premiums.
The Rand traded slightly weaker by 0,25% against the US$.
The Australian market gained 1,8%(AU$) on today’s sale, when compared to their previous sale held on Thursday, 27 January.
The major buyers on today’s sale were: Modiano SA (3 027), Standard Wool SA (2 834), Lempriere SA (2 385) and Tianyu SA (620).
The average clean prices for the selection within the different micron categories for good top-making (MF5), long fleeces were as follows: 18,0 microns increased 4,1% to close at R250,28/kg; 18,5 microns moved 4,0% up to close at R227,26/kg; 19 microns gained 4,9% to close at R216,48/kg; 19,5 microns strengthened by 4,7% to close at R198,99/kg; 20 microns was 6,4% stronger to close at R191,99/kg; 20,5 microns won 5,6% to close at R180,55/kg; 21,0 microns recovered 6,1% to close at R174,05/kg; 21,5 microns improved by 6,6% to close at R172,17kg; 22 microns rose 4,8% to close at R164,55/kg and 22,5 microns climbed by 5,8% to close at R158,46/kg.
The next auction is scheduled for 09 February 2022 where approximately ± 9 359 will be on sale.
