After a week’s recess in wool auctions, the 22nd sale of the 2025/26 wool selling season took place this week.
A total of 9 798 bales were on offer, with the majority of the offering consisting of fine micron, long length wools. Sustainably certified wools comprised 51,5% of the merino wools on offer.
The SA rand started of weaker against the US$ on the first day of the sale but strengthened over the duration of the 2-day sale to average slightly weaker than the previous sale.
The market resumed on a positive note this week, with good quality certified combing types performing better than the market average, resulting in a good overall sales clearance of 94,1%.
The all-merino indicator increased by 0,4% to close on R238,43 p/kg, whilst the certified indicator gained 1,5% to close on R247,23 p/kg.
A highest price of R340,79 p/kg (clean)(R250,00 p/kg greasy) was paid for a single bale lot of 16 micron merino wool.
The Australian market also continued on an upward trend and increased by 0,9%(AU$) from the previous sale held on Wednesday,11 February.
The major buyers on this week's sale were BKB Pinnacle Fibres (2 390), Standard Wool SA (1 722), G Modiano SA (1 504) and Tianyu SA (1 211).
The next sale will be held on 4 March 2026, when approximately 10 420 bales will be on offer.
